The AAEA Extension Competition for Graduate Students provides an opportunity to develop and/or get feedback on programs that communicate research and practical information to Extension (usually non-economist) audiences.  Entries can be based upon graduate student research for a thesis, dissertation, or other academic work. The competition is sponsored by the Extension and Graduate Student Sections.

Call for submissions: AAEA invited paper sessions at the 2025 ASSA Annual Meeting

President-Elect Tim Beatty is soliciting proposals and suggestions for AAEA invited paper sessions at the 2025 Allied Social Sciences Association (ASSA) Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA, January 3-5, 2025.

The objective of AAEA sessions at the ASSA Annual Meeting is to share new knowledge of interest to economists. The AAEA encourages sessions that will draw widely from ASSA attendees, including sessions jointly sponsored with other ASSA member associations.

The AAEA/ERS Cooperative Agreement Committee is seeking applications for student representatives to join of faculty, staff and government and industry stakeholders working to implement its primary goal of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the association and discipline. Among its other aims, the committee’s specific student-oriented objectives include (a) expanding the number of students from historically underrepresented groups pursuing advanced degrees and careers in agricultural and applied economics; and (b) ensuring that students have the support, resources, and skills to succeed academically and pursue careers in research, government or industry.

The AAEA Board is seeking applications for a co-editor of Applied Economics Teaching Resources (AETR). The co-editor will further the journal’s strategic goals, manage publications, enhance teaching and Extension education scholarship opportunities in the profession, promote innovations in teaching and Extension education methods, and expand the AETR Online Teaching Database.

Special Issue: Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics Use in the Classroom and Academy

Applied Economics and Teaching Resources is calling for manuscripts about use of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics in undergraduate and graduate education in the classroom and across the academy. Submissions of case studies, teaching and extension scholarship and research, educational innovations and methods, extension education innovations and methods, and commentaries about use of artificial intelligence, including use of large language models (LLMs) and platforms, such as ChatGPT, Bing AI, Bard, amongst other, and data analytics in undergraduate and graduate education, extension education, and other learning venues in institutions of higher learning. This special issue is open to a wide array of topics related to artificial intelligence and data analytics across the agricultural and applied economics and agribusiness and management economics disciplines. Topics may include but are not limited to innovative use of AI and data analytics in the classroom; innovative data analytic teaching modules and teaching case studies; teaching case studies about the impact of AI on agriculture, the agricultural industry and society; ethical and academic concerning the use of AI in the academy; assessments of AI for different learning outcomes and tasks; and use of AI and data analytics in extension education programming. The deadline for submissions has been extended to June 30, 2024.

Measuring and Enhancing Resilience of United States Rural Communities in the Context of Climate Variability

Theme: Resilience describes the ability of an individual or community to anticipate, absorb, and recover from a negative shock. This workshop is motivated by the need to better understand the implications of increasing climate variability for the resilience of communities in the United States, acknowledging that implications can be either direct, such as the impacts of negative shock events on individuals and communities where they occur, or indirect, such as impacts on communities connected or adjacent to those experiencing shocks.
