SOLD OUT
8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Tour and pre-conference workshop at New Orleans Marriott

Brief Description:
Agribusiness industry leaders and academics will initially present their thoughts and comments on issues facing agriculture and agribusinesses. Conference attendees will engage in a roundtable discussion on potential research and education programs that can address the issues presented. The objective is to create new opportunities and collaborations among pre-conference attendees and strengthen the relationship between agribusiness industry and academia.

Current panelists that have agreed to speak are (1) Aidan Connolly, President of AgriTech Capital and President of IFAMA and (2) Dr. Jayson Lusk, Vice President and Dean of the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State University.

The goal of the pre-conference is to strengthen the ties between IFAMA and AAEA academic researchers through (1) an open discussion with industry leaders, academic experts, and conference attendees and then (2) a tour of grain export facility.

Relevance to AAEA Members/Meeting Attendees: IFAMA connects private, public sectors and academia, and those who attend IFAMA conferences have opportunities to build collaborations with industry and academic attendees. Having the current IFAMA president, Aidan Connolly, will help bring these networks together at AAEA. Also, there will be a tour of the CHS Myrtle Grove export terminal, which is 25 miles south of New Orleans. AEM section has a membership base with a wide range of research and education interests in agribusiness that will allow to identify the overlapping areas of interest with the industry. Supporting this proposal will help AAEA build stronger relationships with agribusiness industry.
