Abstract Subject Codes

When submitting your paper to the abstract system you will need to select a subject code.  The subject code you select is the category your paper will be grouped in when being reviewed. If accepted, sessions are comprised of abstracts with the same subject codes.  To assist you with selecting a subject code the Organizing Committee created keywords for each of the subject codes.  We recommend you refer to the keywords for subject codes to help you determine the subject code for your submission.

Uploading Poster:

  1. Visit aaea.org and click on “My Account” in the upper right corner to log in to your account. If you don’t remember your credentials, click on “Need Help Logging In” and enter the email connected to your AAEA account.
  2. Once you are logged in, scroll down and click on the “Abstract Management System” button.
  3. This will take you to a list of your presentations.
  4. Click on the title of your accepted abstract.
  5. Scroll down past Reviews and Subject Codes, and you will see a header titled “Upload full paper”. Browse for and select your PDF document to upload.
  6. Once your full paper is uploaded, click “Continue” until you are back to your presentation home screen.

AAEA will upload your poster to AgEcon after this deadline. For any questions regarding this process, please contact us at info@aaea.org.

New for 2024 FAMPS Section Poster Competition

FAMPS Section will host an inaugural poster session at the 2024 Annual Meeting.  The objective of the poster session is to provide a forum for researchers, particularly graduate students and early-career faculty, to be recognized for innovative and high-quality research in poster sessions.  This recognition and networking opportunity could be helpful to some researchers at the beginning stages of their career.

The details for the poster session are the following:

  • FAMPS will provide two awards:
    • a $250 prize for the best poster in which the lead author is a graduate student
    • a $250 prize for the best poster in which the lead author has a doctorate degree
  • Requirements:  The lead author for each submission must be a FAMPS member and must register and attend the 2024 AAEA Annual Meeting in-person.
    • Notify AAEA that you are interested in participating in the FAMPS competition by emailing: info@aaea.org and indicating you want to participate in the FAMPS poster competition by May 31st
    • Become a FAMPS member here: http://aaea.execinc.com/edibo/JoinSections
    • Register for the AAEA Annual meeting by May 15th (presenter deadline): https://www.aaea.org/meetings/2024-aaea-annual-meeting/registration-travel
    • Setup your poster by 8:00 am on Monday, July 29 in the poster hall
  • Judging:  FAMPS leadership will have three researchers to judge the competition during the poster session on Monday from 4:15-5:30 PM.
  • Logistics:  Posters accepted in the FAMPS competition will have a symbol on their poster board.  The names of the poster winners will be announced during Awards Ceremony on Monday night.  Winners will need to stop by the Registration Desk on Tuesday morning to provide mailing address information for the checks.

Please contact info@aaea.org with any questions.

Poster Design

To help you develop your poster, we have provided a few suggestions below. This is meant as a general overview to get you started.

Size
The maximum poster size is 4 feet high by 8 feet long, minus a 1-inch margin. Your actual poster may be smaller. Pushpins will be provided for you to hang your poster.

Content

  • Introduction: Provide context for your research. Why you are excited about it?
  • Objectives: What questions did you address or answer?
  • Methods: Key information on your research design and analysis. Keep it brief.
  • Results & Discussion: What was observed? How do the results relate to the original questions? Focus on the key points.
  • Conclusions: What did you learn?

Replace text with graphical elements as much as possible (e.g., photographs or maps of study's location, other visual aids to convey key results), but do not forget your complete contact information. Consider including a photograph of the presenting author.

Layout
Clearly indicate your key message. Avoid clutter and unnecessary detail. Don't fight the reader's gravity-pull from top to bottom and left to right. Remember graphical elements, such as balance, symmetry, rhythm, repetition, and change.

Aesthetics
Any text in your poster should be readable from 6 feet away, including text in figures. This means no text should be smaller than a 20-point font. The title should be much larger and readable from a distance (12 feet or more).

Use fonts without serif, but bold. Use dark letters on light backgrounds. Use color carefully; very bright colors can easily fatigue the reader. Stick to a theme of 2-3 colors.

Below you will find a few posters that were displayed at the 2013 Joint Annual Meeting. They are all great examples of how to communicate information in an effective and visually interesting way.
