Renew Your AAEA Membership for 2017

You can now renew your AAEA membership for 2017 on the AAEA website. Simply log in to the “My Account” section to renew. Completing your renewal online saves you time by filling out most of the information for you automatically.

You will need to be a current AAEA member in order to vote in the Executive Board Election, which runs April 15-May 15, 2017.

AEM/Graduate Student Section Case Study Competition
The AEM/Graduate Student Section Case Study Competition allows graduate students to test their communication skills and their ability to apply their knowledge of agricultural economics and agribusiness subjects to practical situations. Students competing in the competition will receive a copy of the case study at least two weeks in advance of the 2017 AAEA Annual Meeting. Deadline is June 12, 2017. This workshop aims to strengthen the core grant writing skills of early career professionals, offering the opportunity to learn more about the perspectives of major funding organizations by engaging directly with donor representatives. Robert J. Myers
2017 Fellow
Robert J. Myers is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics at Michigan State University, and Senior Fellow at the National Center for Food and Agricultural Policy in Washington DC. He grew up in rural Australia and studied agricultural and applied economics at the Universities of New England and Minnesota, where he received his Ph.D. in 1986. Myers’ career has focused on contributions in research, graduate education, service, and outreach. He has produced over 100 publications with over 3,900 Google Scholar citations.

Register for the 2017 Employment Center
Registration is now open for the 2017 Employment Center taking place July 30- August 1, during the 2017 AAEA Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL. The Employment Center offers a great opportunity for highly qualified candidates to connect with a number of employers during the Annual Meeting. The Employment Center features a simplified registration and posting process that is integrated into the AAEA Job Board. Employer registration is $400 and includes unlimited job postings. Applicant registration is FREE, but participants must be registered for the 2017 AAEA Annual Meeting..

Who: This Workshop is for Early Career Professionals currently in a position in the academic or government fields. Topics include: teaching; service: learning when to say "NO"; grant writing and project management; work-life balance; research and publishing; extension and outreach; successful communication; strategies and working with the media; navigating re-appointment, promotion and tenure; and advice on careers outside of academia. Call for Submissions:
2018 ASSA Annual Meeting
President-Elect Scott Swinton is soliciting proposals and suggestions for AAEA invited paper sessions at the 2018 Allied Social Sciences Association (ASSA) Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA January, 5-7, 2018.

The objective of AAEA sessions at the ASSA Annual Meeting is to share new knowledge of interest to economists. The AAEA encourages sessions that will draw widely from ASSA attendees, including sessions jointly sponsored with other ASSA member associations.

Inter-Conference Symposium
Submission of full papers: Full papers written in English should be submitted via the ConfTool system NO LATER than June 1, 2017. The papers should be no longer than 10 pages total including Tables, and Figures (References do not count in the 10 page limit). Papers should be double spaced, use Times New Roman Font 12 with one-inch margins all around. The papers should provide a background section, a clear explanation of the core research question(s), data and methods used, results, conclusions and key references. Authors are asked to adhere to all stated requirements.

Discrete Choice Experiments and Data Analysis
Summer School July 24-28, 2017
The International Summer School on “Discrete Choice Experiments and Data Analysis: Theory and Applications from Introductory to Advanced Models with Case Studies” will cover the theoretical and empirical foundations behind diverse choice experiment designs and random utility models. The practical component of the course will be based on recent software developments in model estimation and experimental design (Nlogit, Ngene, and R). The course is open to academics, graduate students at different levels (MSc, MPhil, PG-diploma, and PhD), consultants, and other practitioners. Instructors include Riccardo Scarpa (Durham U. and U. Verona), John Rose and Matthew Beck (U. Sydney), Rodolfo M. Nayga Jr. (U. Arkansas), and Petr Mariel (U. Basque Country UPV/EHU).
