Advanced Registration Deadline - July 18

Advanced registration ends July 18, 2025. Beginning on July 19, registration prices will increase and online registration will close. Registration will then be available in person at the AAEA registration desk in Denver.

You may register for a Pre- and Post-conference Workshop while registering for the annual meeting or by calling the AAEA Business Office at (414) 918-3190.

Cancellations: Cancellations of meeting registrations are subject to a $50 processing fee. After July 3, no refunds will be given for meeting registrations or special event tickets. If AAEA cancels the meeting, any paid meeting registration fees will be fully refunded.

2025 AAEA Business Meeting

AAEA’s Annual Business Meeting will be held during the annual meeting in Denver, CO on Monday, July 28 in the Plaza Court ABC at the Sheraton Denver Downtown.

This meeting gives members the chance to hear about the state of the association. Updates will be given by the AAEA President, the Finance Committee, and the AAEA Trust Committee. Additionally, Board members and Editors who are completing their terms will be recognized for their service. Lastly, those in attendance will be given an opportunity to voice any questions or concerns that they may have.

We hope you’ll join us in Denver.

Transportation from Denver International Airport

At a cost of $10 each way, travelers can use the A Line to get from the airport to downtown Denver and vice versa, courtesy of the Regional Transportation District (RTD), metro Denver's public transit provider.

The A Line, which opened on April 22, 2016, whisks travelers to the heart of downtown, specifically Denver Union Station. From Union Station, travelers can access additional local and regional transportation services, such as light rail, regional and local buses, Amtrak rail service, taxis and the free 16th Street Mall shuttle (MallRide) and free downtown MetroRide buses that provide access to most downtown hotels. Working with the Media 

AAEA members are invited to attend an interactive session on engaging with the media. Journalists will share how and when they incorporate expert perspectives into their stories, helping researchers better understand the media process. Participants will also hear from AAEA members who have experience serving as expert sources and can offer practical advice on preparing for interviews.

If you are interested in communicating your research to broader audiences or learning more about how media engagement works, this session will provide useful guidance and examples.

Outstanding Poster Aware sponsored by the International Section

The AAEA International Section seeks to recognize an outstanding poster presented at the 2025 AAEA Annual Meeting focused on international research, i.e., studies addressing international issues in economics, development and environmental aspects, whose results and lessons can be transmitted or disseminated to an audience beyond one country.

The nomination package should include:

  • A cover letter, with a short-narrative of 150 words–not including salutations or signature.
  • A copy of the research poster
  • The acceptance email that corroborates the research poster is accepted at the 2025 AAEA annual meeting.

Eligibility and rules:

  • Main author must be a member of the INTL section.
  • The applicant can only be the main author in one poster. Nominations for the awards are open to both single- and multi-coauthored selected papers and posters.
  • The deadline to submit nominations is Monday July 14, 2025, at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.
  • Nominations must be submitted to the INTL Past Chair (Dr. Luis Peña-Lévano, with email lpenalevano@ucdavis.edu) in only one-document as a PDF format.

Winners will be recognized during the INTL Section Business Meeting at the 2025 AAEA Annual Conference.

Is Climate Change a Driver of Food Price Inflation?

Matthew Gammans and K. Aleks Schaefer

We consider the role that recent climate change plays in rising food prices. We survey the academic literature to assess how climate change may affect costs throughout the food supply chain. Our back-of-the-envelope calculations imply that climate change has played little role in recent food price inflation.

Congress Passes Budget Reconciliation Package, Includes Some Farm Bill Programs

On July 1st, the Senate passed its version of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” budget reconciliation package. Vice President JD Vance was needed to break a 50-50 tie to ultimately secure passage. The House approved the Senate-passed version on July 3rd by a vote of 218-214 paving the way for President Trump’s signature on July 4th. Due to Senate parliamentary rules, several changes were required in the Senate to allow the bill to pass by a simple majority. The final package includes mandatory funding for a wide array of agriculture programs traditionally found in Farm Bill legislation ranging from commodity programs to conservation and nutrition. The legislation also includes funding for several agricultural research programs. Most notably it provides $125 million per year to fund the Research Facilities Act to help address research infrastructure needs. This program will be administered by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture and it is expected that there will be a competitive process announced in the coming months for the program.

Risk and Risk Management in the Agricultural Economy

November 21, 2025 — Cambridge, MA
To promote research on the risks that are borne by individuals and firms in the agricultural sector, and on the tools that are available to manage these risks, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), with the support of the Economic Research Service at the US Department of Agriculture, will convene a research conference in Cambridge, MA on Friday, November 21, 2025. The conference will be organized by Barry Goodwin (North Carolina State University) and Tatyana Deryugina (University of Illinois and NBER).
