AAEA News Housing and Registration are OPEN About 1,400 participants are expected to attend the 2019 AAEA Annual Meeting, which will take place on July 21-23 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis in downtown Atlanta.
Register for the 2019 AAEA Employment Center AAEA invites and encourages you to register for the 2019 AAEA Annual Meeting Employment Center, taking place July 21-23 in Atlanta, GA. This is a great opportunity for employers to connect with potential candidates. Employers who register may post open positions on the AAEA Job Board, view resumes of applicants who are participating in the Employment Center, and they may also utilize a table in the Annual Meeting Employment Center to conduct in-person interviews with applicants. Applicant registration is FREE. Please note: Applicants must be registered for the Annual Meeting in order to participate in the Employment Center. Call for submissions President-Elect Keith Coble is soliciting proposals and suggestions for AAEA invited paper sessions at the 2020 Allied Social Sciences Association (ASSA) Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA, January 3-5, 2020. The objective of AAEA sessions at the ASSA Annual Meeting is to share new knowledge of interest to economists. AAEA encourages sessions that will draw widely from ASSA attendees, including sessions jointly sponsored with other ASSA member associations. Please send proposals by May 30, 2019, in Word or PDF format to Mary Annen at mannen@aaea.org. Call for Applications The AAEA Board is seeking applications for a co-editor of Choices Magazine to help further the strategic goals of the publication as a resource for readers interested in the policy and management of agriculture, the food industry, natural resources, rural communities, and the environment. Choices Magazine currently reaches over 2700 non-member subscribers, but there is room to grow. Anti-Harassment and Code of Conduct Policy AAEA is committed to the fair, ethical treatment of all of its members and all other individuals participating in AAEA activities or activities connected with, or related to, AAEA activities, while providing an atmosphere that promotes a variety of research, teaching and extension/outreach activities. The AAEA has zero tolerance for, and prohibits any type of, discrimination or harassment, including sexual harassment, within the organization, at professional meetings, in the field, or anywhere professional activities are conducted under the aegis of the AAEA. These grants defray housing and transportation costs associated with attending the 2019 AAEA Annual Meeting in Atlanta on July 21-23. The amount of the travel grant awarded will depend on the number of applications received. AAEA Trust Travel Grants (if awarded) are generally not large enough to offset all travel and lodging costs, nor more than half of international travel costs. The goal of the workshop is to develop multidisciplinary leaders from the AAEA membership who are grounded in applied economics but who are interested in working across disciplines to lead effective teams of scholars. Research and teaching are the core areas of the workshop. Mid-Career Mentoring Workshop to be held at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, June 12-14, 2019. Call for Papers AETR is a new online open access publication sponsored by the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association for high end research and scholarship in the areas of teaching, education and extension in the fields of agricultural economics, agribusiness, applied economics and related disciplines. Announcing The 2019 Extension Competition for Graduate Students The AAEA Extension Competition for Graduate Students provides incentives and opportunity to develop extension and outreach programs from their research for an extension (usually noneconomist) audience. Entries can be based upon the graduate student’s research for a thesis, dissertation or other academic work. The competition is sponsored jointly by the Extension and Graduate Student Sections. Other News Call for Papers Recent years have witnessed a significant increase in the decline and fall of natural resources (e.g., water, energy, forestry, minerals, fisheries) institutions, in the US and globally, due to the corrosive impact of institutional entropy. The purpose of this special issue is to examine in detail the causes and consequences of institutional entropy and also suggest possible corrective measures. 2019 Richardsonâ€Applebaum Scholarship Award The Food Distribution Research Society (FDRS) is pleased to accept applications for the 2019 Richardson-Applebaum Scholarship Award, which is awarded annually for outstanding graduate student research in the area of food distribution and marketing. Broadly defined, this area encompasses all economic functions that occur between the farm gate and final consumer. 2019 Food Distribution Research Society Scholarship Award The Food Distribution Research Society (FDRS) is pleased to accept applications for the 2019 Undergraduate Student Research Paper Competition in the area of food distribution and marketing.
