I will begin by thanking those who have given comments on the draft AAEA strategic plan. This is an opportunity to develop important priorities for our association. This will guide programming and budget decisions in years ahead. Our board will review the input from members to develop a final version that will be shared with the profession.
The AAEA Board has developed an updated Strategic Plan for the association. This plan will be a framework that will help guide the Board’s decision-making over the next 5-10 years. A draft of the Strategic Plan is available online using this link.
The AAEA Board welcomes any comments and suggestions for edits to this plan from AAEA members. Following this comment period and final Board review, this plan will be implemented within the next couple of months.
Please send any comments and edits to the Strategic Plan to AAEA Executive Director, Kristen McGuire at email@example.com by Friday, February 28.
We appreciate your comments and feedback!

Topical Focus of Special WEF Issue: Adding Economic Value – Increasing Farm and Community Prosperity in the Western U.S.
The Western Economics Forum (WEF) focuses on interdisciplinary issues relevant to the Western United States. Western state economies continue to be impacted by highly variable returns to key commodities; policies that influence the availability of labor, water and other critical inputs; as well as weather patterns that affect the quantity and quality of agricultural production. In response, agricultural producers, researchers, community organizations and educators are seeking strategies to smooth variability in rural incomes, create new sources of employment, reduce use of increasingly scarce inputs to production, and develop markets for new services and products.
