Zilberman Named Member of National Academy of Sciences

AAEA President elected to NAS

On April 30, the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) announced 100 new members. AAEA President, David Zilberman is amoung the list of newly elected members. Members are chosen by peers and are recognized for their distinguished and continued achievements in original research. Elected members, join a total list of 2,347 members.

David Zilberman is a professor of agricultural and resource economics, and Robinson Chair, in the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. He recently won the Wolf Prize in Agriculture.

“Being elected the NAS is a great honor and responsibility, as NAS directly and indirectly is a source of scientific and policy information to the nation and the world. This selection is recognition of the importance of the efforts of AAEA members and the value of agricultural, applied, and environmental economics that I represent.  This field has growing importance as we set the course for national and global policy initiatives, facing challenges of climate change, food security, and sustainability. This selection is also recognition of the importance of research by the AAEA members,” says Zilberman.

The National Academy of Sciences is a nonprofit organization of leading researchers in the United States. The NAS encourages education and research, recognizes contributions to knowledge, and increases understanding in matters of science, engineering, and medicine.
