Agriculture faces a suite of urgent challenges. Current production systems are unlikely to simultaneously address the needs of a growing human population, food insecurity, climate change, and environmental degradation. No person or discipline will be able to solve these challenges alone. New transdisciplinary science efforts are needed to design, build, test, and deploy new agricultural systems that are regenerative, biodiverse, climate-resilient, equitable, and economically sustainable in addition to productive.
In the T.W. Schultz Memorial Lecture, an AAEA annual event happening at the ASSA 2022, Lisa Schulte Moore from Iowa States, shares how teams are working with farmers, industry, government, and other stakeholders to create new systems in Iowa. She will also suggest lessons that may be more broadly applicable to agricultural change efforts elsewhere.
