Three AAEA Members Elected to Association’s Leadership

Wilson, Ando, and Muhammad join AAEA Executive Board in August 2021

After a month of voting, AAEA has named a new leader to their Executive Committee. Norbert Wilson from Duke University will be the incoming President-Elect for the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association’s (AAEA).

Wilson previously served on the Board of Directors for AAEA from 2017 to 2020. He says, “It is humbling that the membership of the AAEA selected me as their President-elect. The AAEA is an important voice in food, agricultural, environmental, and other economic issues. Through teaching, research, and extension, the members of the  AAEA provide an important public service to diverse communities. In an ever-changing world, my goal is for the AAEA to continue supporting and promoting the membership in the important work we have done and extend our efforts to address overlooked and upcoming issues. ”

Joining the Board of Directors this year are Amy Ando, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Andrew Muhammad from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Ando says, “I hope to help create resources that empower institutions in AAEA to make tangible improvements in the diversity of their people and the inclusiveness of their work. I hope also to expand the set of questions we ask and answer by supporting research symposiums and community-building events on issues of discrimination and disparity, and by helping a broader set of groups to view themselves as stakeholders and partners in the work of the AAEA.”

Muhammad states, “I am particularly excited about the opportunity to work on activities to improve relations between the profession and Federal agencies like the Economic Research Service and policy makers, and helping AAEA to reliably serve economists working in all three phases of the land-grant mission, federal agencies, and non-academic organizations.”

Wilson, Ando, and Muhammad will begin their new roles for AAEA starting August 3, at the culmination of the hybrid 2021 AAEA & WAEA Joint Annual Meeting.

Rotating off the AAEA Board of Directors after a three-year term are Marc Bellemare from the University of Minnesota and Rodolfo Nayga, Jr from the University of Arkansas.
