AAEA Names New President

Dr. Jill McCluskey Takes Over During “Exciting Time” for the Association

MILWAUKEE, September 2, 2015 - Jill McCluskey, Ph.D., Professor of Sustainability in the School of Economics at Washington State University, is the new President of the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA).

Dr. McCluskey is one of the leading experts internationally on the economics of sustainable labeling and consumer preferences for new technology. Her 100-plus, frequently-cited publications focus on the economics of food quality and labeling, firm incentives, and consumer perceptions and behavior.

Dr. McCluskey’s research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and she has held several leadership positions within AAEA in addition to serving as Associate Editor of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics.

“It is an exciting time to be an agricultural and applied economist,” Dr. McCluskey said. “The field is positioned to make an impact on some of the paramount issues of our time.”

As President, Dr. McCluskey hopes to improve opportunities for member engagement within AAEA.

“I believe such engagement advances the profession and serves the professional as we take up the critical issues of today and for generations to come.”
