Emery N. Castle

Dr. Castle distinguished himself as a researcher, teacher, administrator and public servant at Oregon State University, where he joined the faculty in 1954. While there he served first as dean of faculty, then head of the Department of Agricultural Economics and finally as dean of the Graduate School. He and his associates in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics pioneered investigations in environmental quality, marine resources and outdoor recreation.

Dr. Castle acted as president of the Western Farm Economics Association and vice-president and president of the AAEA. He was named a fellow of the AAEA in 1976. He was the first chairman of the AAEA consolidated awards program and served in that office for three years. He was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the profession through the Oregon State University Distinguished Professor Award and the AAEA's Award for Excellence in Published Research.
