Call for Applications
The AAEA Executive Board invites applications for the Managing Editor for the Journal of the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (JAAEA) to serve from January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2029. The editor will manage submitted manuscripts containing original research results addressing real-world problems with sound research approaches and/or have strong policy relevance within the subject matter of the journal. The Managing Editor works closely with a slate of Area Editors to ensure rapid and thorough reviews and decisions concerning submitted manuscripts. AAEA is particularly interested in candidates who will bring ideas and innovations to help JAAEA further its mission and to bolster its reputation.
Submitted articles will meet the normal standards for scholarly publication, but should also be accessible to the broader audience of agricultural and applied economists working outside academia. Submitted articles should emphasize one or more of the following: (a) practical implications for public policy; (b) clarification of research implications to maximize accessibility and cross-fertilization across specific areas of research; (c) empirical comparison of competing theories, explanations, and approaches that can refine future research; and (d) development of fruitful directions for future research. The incumbent will work with an editorial team comprised of eleven area editors. The JAAEA editorial process employs an online submission systems for manuscripts and exchanges between editors and reviewers. The system tracks manuscripts through submission, review, and editorial decisions. Authors can also query this system for email reports on the status in the editorial process of a submitted manuscript. The editors also oversee the work of Wiley in preparing accepted articles for publication. The JAAEA recently received its inaugural impact factor (1.8) and the association seeks a Managing Editor capable of building upon this foundation of scholarly impact.
The new editor should be prepared to begin on January 1, 2027. There may be some training and coordination work starting prior to the start date. Applications should include (1) a statement of editorial philosophy and ideas for furthering the journal’s goals, (2) an indication of the candidate’s principal areas of expertise to support the JAAEA’s mission, (3) a curriculum vitae, and (4) a statement of administrative and financial support to be provided by the host institution. AAEA provides financial assistance to defray some portion of the editor’s time and most expenses. Applications should be sent electronically as one PDF-file to Jeanne Rhodes, AAEA Executive Director, at jrhodes@aaea.org by August 31, 2026. Decisions will be made by the AAEA Board by September, 2026. Third-party nominations of potentially interested candidates who can then be solicited for their materials are also welcome.
