Overview

The Agricultural Innovation and Productivity (AIP) Section will serve as a hub for the economics of innovation and productivity in agriculture and natural resource management. Its membership will include faculty researchers, students, industry experts, and government employees.

Purpose

This section aims to offer a venue for members of AAEA to meet, discuss, and collaborate on innovation-related topics. It seeks to:

  • Share and exchange knowledge and facilitate cooperation in research, teaching, and outreach activities related to agricultural innovation and productivity;
  • Identify new opportunities to enhance research on subjects such as innovation, productivity, technology adoption, entrepreneurship, public and private research and development, supply chain design, the bioeconomy, economic growth, and other related topics;
  • Provide a national discourse on the economics of policies of research and development, innovation, technological change, and their impacts;
  • Establish a professional platform for early career development in this area;
  • Identify new data sources as well as theoretical and empirical methods and tools for studying innovation and productivity topics;  
  • Enhance multidisciplinary group research on innovation and productivity among economists and members of other professional groups;
  • Facilitate communication about economics of innovation research among AAEA members, other scientists, and public policy analysts.

Membership

Membership to the Agricultural Innovation and Productivity section is open to current members of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA). Members may join the Agricultural Innovation and Productivity  Section concurrently with AAEA, or if already a member of AAEA. The membership fee is $15 per year for non-students. Graduate and undergraduate student membership is FREE.

Activities

The section serves as a platform for our members to share their work, learn from each other, collaborate, and network. It aims to organize track sessions, workshops, webinars, and podcasts. It may co-sponsor conferences and training programs both domestically and internationally. It emphasizes activities promoting research on innovation and productivity among young scholars.

The section will establish a website, a listserv and online forum, an annual business meeting, in addition to the programmatic efforts. The section may also establish awards according to the bylaws of the sections of the AAEA.

The section will collaborate with other sections and organizations outside the AAEA, domestic and international, to establish joint research programs on productivity and innovation.

Structure

The structure of the section will follow the bylaws of the AAEA. It will have a Chair who will serve for two years, a Vice-Chair who serves as Chair-Elect, and a Secretary/Treasurer. The section will have a board, which includes at least the Chair, Chair-Elect, immediate past Chair, and Secretary/Treasurer, as well as three other members. The section will also have an executive committee of the Chair, Chair-Elect, and immediate past Chair. It will hold elections once a year. It may have other committees.
