Communications Committee
Mission: The Communications Committee is committed to growing the visibility, impact, and outreach of AAEA’s work and its members.
Our purpose is to amplify the voice of agricultural and applied economics through strategic communication efforts that connect our membership with the broader public, media, policymakers, and academic audiences.
In addition to external outreach, the Communications Committee supports internal communication and collaboration. We aim to keep members informed, engaged, and connected by providing facilitating knowledge sharing across sections and encouraging active involvement in AAEA’s initiatives.
The Communications Committee will provide guidance to AAEA and AAEA staff and ongoing oversight of internal communication and external media and public relations strategies. The Committee will also develop strategies to enhance AAEA members’ ability to communicate the importance of their professional work. Its role will be to:
- Identify and prioritize types of content for greatest impact
- Assist in identifying appropriate experts who can translate the research, if not the author
- Identify ways to demonstrate the importance of the content
- Identify the audiences who should receive the content
- Strategize media channels across types of content strategies
- Recommend changes to enhance communications with members
- Evaluate the effectiveness of communications strategy and tactics
- Recommend ways to strengthen the ability of members to communicate the relevance of their work to external audiences, outside of formal AAEA publications.
