Senior Section

The Senior Section of AAEA offers experience and maturity to issues and concerns addressed by the Association. With membership composed of professionals 55 years and older, the perspectives of the Section are of persons well advanced in their careers. Those perspectives are reflected in both the several program areas of AAEA and the particular career concerns of seniors.

In the various program areas, the Section stresses a greater appreciation and better understanding of history and historical context of economic studies, closer association with related social sciences and humanities, and emphasis of evolutionary processes in agricultural and resource economics. The Senior Section track in Annual Meetings may include symposia, papers and posters under various subject themes and occasionally the celebration of contributions of an outstanding economist or other social scientist to applied economics.

Career concerns for Seniors relate to changes in venue or orientation, new views, new places, new contacts, and new outlets for ideas. The Section is examining means to support contact between experienced applied economists and public, private and non-profit organizations for short-term and career changing positions.

AAEA members who are 55 or older are eligible for Senior Section membership, and encouraged to pay their $10 when annual dues statements arrive. Join your Senior Section colleagues and friends for breakfast at each AAEA Annual Meeting and in organizing AAEA sessions and other activities. Retirement is not a prerequisite for Section membership!
