Executive Committee

Officer Elections are held each year for the positions of Vice Chair, Secretary, and the 3 Members-at-Large.  Be sure to read our bylaws for the complete list of duties for each officer of the Executive Committee. The current GSS officers are:

Shannon Sand is the chair for 2009-2010 and a second year Ph.D. student at Oklahoma State University. She obtained her B.S. and M.S. from the University of Florida in food and resource economics. There she specialized in agribusiness and international trade. Shannon?s current areas of research include Agribusiness, Industrial Organization, and Transaction cost economics. Shannon works to create new liaisons with other AAEA sections, and helps with the extension case competition.

Alicia English is the chair elect. She currently working on her PhD at Purdue University with a focus on energy, natural resources and development. She completed her M.S. in Agricultural Economics at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville, working on cocoa and tree crop markets in Liberia. Her B.A. is from Colorado State University in Economics.

Per Bylund is a GSS member-at-large for 2009-10 responsible for communication issues, in his second term at this position. After earning his B.S. in Business Administration from Jonkoping International Business School in Sweden in 1998 and M.S. in Informatics from the same instiution the following year and an M.A. in Political Science from Lund University in 2005, he has been working on a Ph.D. at University of Missouri since August 2007 in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics.

Patrick Ward is a GSS member-at-large for 2009-10. He began his PhD studies in Agricultural Economics at Purdue University in January 2008. His primary area of interest is International Development, with a particular geographic emphasis on Sub-Saharan Africa. His dissertation research focuses on applying the concept of vulnerability as a measure of well-being, and the empirical component of his dissertation research examines this concept of vulnerability at different scales of aggregation, including at the country level, the geographic grid-cell level, and the household level. In addition to development, he has research and teaching interests in microeconomics, mathematical economics, and applied econometrics. He holds a B.S. in Financial Planning from Purdue University (2002) and a M.A. in Economics from Indiana University (2007).

Jeremy D'Antoni is GSS member-at-large Membership for 2009-10. He from Baton Rouge, LA and is working towards a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics at Louisiana State University. Prior to enrolling in LSU, he worked in the financial industry for three years. During this time, he complete the first level of the CFA program. His bachelor?s degree was also completed at LSU, where he graduated summa cum laude in Finance. His current research interests are in farm labor, agribusiness, and finance.

Kateryna Goychuk is the 2009-2010 Secretary/Treasurer of the Graduate Student Section of the AAEA. Kateryna is the first year PhD student at the University of Missouri, focusing on food policy analysis. She also holds two M.S. degrees in Agricultural Economics and Management Science/Statistics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Kateryna is originally from Kiev, Ukraine.
