What is AAEA?
The Agricultural & Applied Economics Association is a professional society for those interested in agricultural economics. A nonprofit organization, AAEA is committed to furthering knowledge about the economics of agriculture, rural communities, and natural resources. AAEA keeps you abreast of the latest agricultural economics research developments and policy issues. AAEA keeps you in touch with peers from industry, government, academic, professional and trade associations, foundations and international organizations. AAEA provides a shared vision to promote a sense of community and provide opportunities for active participation by all agricultural economists.

AAEA's Mission - To enhance the skills, knowledge and professional contributions of those economists who serve society in solving problems related to agriculture, food, resources and economic development.

How do I join AAEA?
You can join AAEA on-line by clicking on the "Become a Member " link to the left or by calling the AAEA office at (414) 918-3190.

What do I get with my membership?
Plenty! Your AAEA membership provides you with access to AAEA's publications both in print and through the Internet, reduced registration rates for the Annual Meeting and other meetings, a chance to join special interest sections, representation at the national level through C-FARE, a chance to secure project funding through a grant from the AAEA Foundation, and much more.

What happens at the Annual Meeting?
The Annual Meeting program typically consists of research presentations classified as principal papers, selected papers, organized symposia, free sessions of posters. Recent meetings have featured special interest tracks - a series of different types of sessions organized by several of AAEA's special interest sections. Additional educational opportunities are available through pre- or post-conference workshops covering topics like NAFTA, policy issues, biotechnology and distance education. I'm interested in presenting at the Annual Meeting. What do I do?
Watch the AAEA Newsletter and Web site for a call for submissions in September. The deadline for proposals is typically in mid-January. Presentation proposals are made through the AAEA Web site and evaluated by reviewers via the Internet. You will be notified by the end of March as to the status of your proposal. How do I submit an article to the AJAE, RAE, or CHOICES?
The editorial staff listing, submission information and the AAEA style guide can be found under the "Information Central " link at left - look for the "Publications" cateogry.

What's in the "Members Only" area of the Web site?
The "Members Only" area of the Web site contains the most recent copy of the AAEA Newsletter, the expanded membership directory, the developing Consultant Clearinghouse database, information on AAEA elections, AAEA list serve information, and the developing peer review message board area.

What is agricultural economics?
Agricultural economics is the application of economic tools to analyze issues and solve problems in the areas of agriculture, food, rural communities and natural resources. Agricultural & Applied economists work in a variety of institutions applying their knowledge of economics and business skills related to food production, rural development and natural resources.

What degree programs in agricultural economics are offered today?

How can I find agricultural economists interested in my specialty area?
AAEA members can perform a search based on specialty areas in the AAEA Membership Directory, located under the "Members Only" link to the left. Non-members can search as well, under "About AAEA" link on the left, but will receive only abbreviated contact information.

How do I find out who else is an AAEA member?
You can search the AAEA Membership Directory located under the "About AAEA" or "Members Only" link at left. Search by name, state, institution, country or specialty areas. Non-members will receive an abbreviated contact listing.

Can AAEA help me find a job?
AAEA Career Central can help employers and employees connect by providing you with searchable job and internship listings and a place to post your resume for viewing by hiring companies. Just click on the "Careers & Education" link to the left.

What is a section? How do I join one?
A section of the AAEA is composed of at least 50 Association members who share an interest in an area of agricultural economics. To join a section, simply indicate on your membership application to which section you wish to belong.

Who leads the AAEA? How are they chosen?
AAEA is governed by an elected President, a six member Board of Directors, the President-Elect, and the immediate Past-President. In addition, the editors of AAEA's three publications sit as ex-officio members of the Board. Each Director serves a three-year term, with two Directors rotating off the Board each year. Elections for the President-Elect and two Directors are held each spring.
