Board president John Antle called the Executive Board meeting of the American Agricultural Economics Association to order on December 22, 1999, at 9:00 a.m.

1. A proposed change to the Vision and Mission statements for AAEA was presented. The board reviewed the statements and made no additions or deletions.

2. John Antle initiated discussion on AAEA committees. Perceptions of the committees and their functions were presented. It was suggested that committees become operational and support the Board's mission and that Ad Hoc committees are assigned to short term issues and would be dissolved after completion. It was also suggested some committees could function as sections. No action was taken and further discussion will follow at the Spring Executive Board Meeting.

3. Section representation at the Executive Board Meeting was discussed. The board agreed that all meetings are open to any members of AAEA and at this time representation can be made on a voluntary basis. Selection of one Board meeting a year for a rotating special invitation to sections and committees was discussed.

4. The Executive Board will hold a Spring Board Meeting April 7 and 8 in Iowa. Further discussion on committee structure will take place at that time. Julie Caswell will coordinate proposals from the board members on committee functions and submit the information to board members by mid to late February.

5. The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Donna F. Dunn
AAEA Executive Director
