The American Agricultural Economics Association Foundation, established in 1985, is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, fund-raising, gift-repository, and capital-accumulating subsidiary of the American Agricultural Economics Association, authorized under Article XII of the AAEA Constitution. Its purpose is to solicit, collect, invest, and disburse funds other than membership dues and other fees collected by the AAEA for its services and products.

Funds are to be used to: (a) enhance the quality and usefulness of the work done by agricultural economists, (b) expand the range of clientele for whom the economic intelligence produced may be useful, and (c) otherwise enhance the abilities and outreach of agricultural economists.

The Foundation funds projects to support professional excellence in teaching, economic education, research and communication.

VISION AND GOALS - Adopted at the Foundation Governing Board Meeting in January of 2003.

Vision:
"The AAEA Foundation will mobilize resources and generate initiatives to increase membership, enhance member involvement, expand missions, and stimulate new fields of activity for the AAEA."

Goals:
To mobilize resources and serve as a catalyst to enhance the capacity of AAEA to fulfill its vision in:

1. stimulating and nurturing the professional development of its members and potential
members,

2. providing information to enhance the quality of the public discourse on issues related
to agriculture, the food system, natural resources, environment, development and
related issues,

3. providing a focal point for debate on critical issues,

4. enlarging the community of our membership (including, e.g., business economists,
public service professionals, faculty and students of 1890 institutions, etc.),

5. expanding and deepening the Association's involvement with industry, public service,
and the international community, and

6. broadening participation in the full range of Association activities by individuals and
groups with limited resources.

The AAEA Foundation appreciates contributions from those committed to furthering innovative programs and professional development opportunities for economics professionals practicing in the areas of agriculture, food, resources, environment, development and allied fields. Since its founding, the Foundation has provided seed money for activities not available through other sources.
