Travel grants for graduate students

The AAEA Foundation seeks applicants for Graduate Student Travel Grants. These grants (up to $300) are to defray housing and transportation costs associated with attending the AAEA Annual Meeting in Providence. Students in an agricultural economics graduate program at a U.S. college or university are eligible. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply. Applications should be forwarded through the institution’s department head, with a limit of two applications per institution.

Applications should include the following information: (1) applicant’s name, address and phone number; (2) applicant’s current status as a graduate student, department and institution where enrolled, degree program, years at the institution and anticipated completion date; (3) applicant’s plans for participating in the AAEA Meeting; (4) a proposed budget for the trip including other sources of funding such as financial support from the department or institution.

Travel grants will be awarded based on financial need and active participation in the Meeting as a paper author, symposium participant or competitor in the graduate student case study competition.

Travel grants for minority professionals

The AAEA Foundation seeks applicants for Minority Professional Travel Grants to attend the 2005 AAEA Annual Meeting in Providence. Grants of up to $500 will be offered to help defray travel and housing costs associated with attending the AAEA Annual Meeting. Eligible individuals are ethnic minorities who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, hold a graduate degree in agricultural economics and are employed as agricultural economists. Also eligible are citizens/residents who are Ph.D. students who have completed all graduate work except the dissertation in an agricultural economics department in a U.S. college or university.

Applications should include (1) applicant’s name, address, telephone number, employment status and residential status. Students must include a statement of verification from their department head; (2) a brief statement of plans for participating in the AAEA Meeting; (3) a proposed budget for the trip including other sources of funding.

Selection criteria include (1) applicant must meet minority professional definition outlined above. Priority will be given to faculty of 1890 and other land grant institutions, especially those who are new to the academic ranks; (2) demonstration of financial need; (3) active participation in the Meeting. Priority will be given to individuals who are on the official program in Providence.
